FOUNDER WALT WILSON HEARD GOD ASK A QUESTION THAT WOULD CHANGE THE COURSE OF HISTORY FOREVER:

What if technology is the way to fulfill the Great Commission?

That question became a conviction. And in 2004, Walt founded Global Media Outreach with a singular, audacious goal: Use the Internet to create 1 billion encounters with the Gospel by 2020.

At the time, the idea of large-scale digital evangelism seemed far-fetched. The Internet was still maturing. Social media barely existed. But Walt saw what few others could—that the same platforms connecting people for commerce and entertainment could become channels for the eternal hope found in Jesus Christ.

The early years were defined by bold experimentation and God-led growth. Language teams were formed in 2006 to create culturally relevant outreach in Portuguese and Arabic, followed by Spanish, French, and more. By 2007, online Gospel advertising had proven its power, and a secure communication system was developed so volunteer responders could safely connect with seekers around the world.

Years of Growth

Growth outpaced every projection. In 2012, the ministry began placing Gospel ads on Facebook, fundamentally transforming its ability to reach people where they already spent their time. Just two years later, in 2014, Global Media Outreach reached the milestone of 1 billion Gospel messages delivered—six years ahead of schedule.

The ministry continued to expand into new languages—Indonesian, Chinese, Hindi, Turkish, Russian, Urdu, Farsi, and Ukrainian—until it served 13 languages, reaching more than 60% of the world’s population. In 2020, the ministry created its 2 billionth moment with Jesus. And in 2021, the ministry acquired ExploreGod, a digital outreach ministry focused on culturally relevant Gospel content for younger generations and American audiences.

In 2024, the ministry launched “The Story of God,” a 10-part series focused on spiritual growth, marking a new chapter in its commitment to deep, meaningful discipleship.

By 2025, the ministry had created more than 3 billion moments with Jesus in 13 languages worldwide, with over 300 million indicated decisions for Christ.

These milestones represent far more than metrics. Behind the numbers are real people—from remote villages to urban centers, from the Middle East to Latin America—whose lives have been touched by the hope of the Gospel.
