A Police Wife’s Digital Rescue

From Paralyzing Fear to Perfect Peace

Paralyzed by fear after her police officer husband survived a brutal assassination attempt, Maria typed two desperate words into a search engine: "Help, please."

It was supposed to be a normal day. Coffee, scrambled eggs, and a simple promise from her husband, Ricardo, as he left for his police shift: "I'll be back after work tonight."

Maria waited. But her husband didn't come home.

Because of his work with the police, Ricardo was a target. While he was on patrol, two men stepped out of a vehicle with guns drawn. Ricardo had no idea they were waiting for him until it was too late.

"My husband looked right into one of the men's eyes…and they shot him seven times," Maria recalled.

Crippled by Fear

After being rushed to the hospital, doctors did everything they could to save his life. When Maria was finally allowed to see Ricardo, the devastating reality of the violence set in. He wasn’t even able to communicate verbally. All she could do was hold his hand to feel that he was still alive.

Ricardo survived, but their lives were shattered. Because they lived in a small town, the threat wasn't over. Terrified the gunmen would return, Maria and Ricardo were forced to flee.

The trauma followed them. For four agonizing months, Maria lived as a prisoner in her own mind. She rarely stepped outside, constantly looking around in paranoia.

"You can't imagine the fear that I had because we thought something else would happen," she said. "Fear had us completely crippled. I couldn't sleep. It was all I thought about. I kept seeing what happened."

A Cry Into the Digital Void

Suffocating under the weight of her anguish, Maria turned to the only place she could safely look for answers: the Internet.

She went to her computer and typed a simple, heartbreaking plea: ‘Help, please.’ That search led her directly to Global Media Outreach.

"What I found is what I was searching for the most," Maria explained. "What I needed."

The Embrace of a Stranger

Through her screen, Maria connected with an Online Missionary. Instead of offering empty platitudes, the OM shared her own story, meeting Maria right in the middle of her pain.

"I needed that embrace I found in her," Maria shared. "And little by little, I started to walk into the idea of hope and the desire to keep going."

Through her darkest days, her digital mentor provided consistent discipleship and unrelenting encouragement.

True Freedom

The healing didn't stop with Maria. As she and Ricardo began reading the Bible together, the Lord touched his life, too.

The woman who couldn't sleep, who was paralyzed by the memory of seven gunshots, had finally found peace.

"I was being truly born again," Maria declared. "The Lord removed all of my fears and gave me freedom."

The Exponential Impact

Maria's story proves that even the most paralyzing trauma is no match for the Gospel. When fear and isolation leave people crippled, our OMs and resources provide a secure, life-saving bridge to the truth. Your partnership ensures that when someone types a desperate plea into a search engine, a trained believer is waiting on the other side to offer the freedom of Jesus.
