Maiga’s Mission to Restore Tanzania

From Grieving to Growing

After losing the father who was his greatest source of motivation, Maiga spiraled into a life on the streets—until a digital connection restored his hope and his future.

Maiga grew up in a close-knit Christian family where his father was his primary source of encouragement, particularly in his education. When his father passed away from cancer in 2005, 12-year-old Maiga was left without motivation. He stopped attending church and began spending his time with friends on the street, describing the period as a very bad time in his life.

"My father passed away in 2005 when I was 12," Maiga recalled. "It was a very difficult time and it affected me so much because I didn’t have motivation."

A Click Toward Encouragement

Years later, Maiga encountered GodLife online. He was met with an invitation: "Do you need prayer? Do you need encouragement?" He decided to click, leading to an email from Cheryl, an Online Missionary.

When they first connected, Maiga lacked depth in his faith and was struggling without the support of his family following his father's death. Cheryl recognized his isolation and asked if he had a local church he could attend.

Connecting to Community

Though Maiga had a church, he admitted he often didn't want to go because life was so difficult. Cheryl began to disciple him, explaining that a community of believers is a place to talk through life’s challenges and receive feedback on spiritual growth. This consistent encouragement from an online mentor gave Maiga the push he needed to reconnect with his local church.

"Cheryl is the one who encouraged me to enter the church and make the connection with other Christians in my community," Maiga said. "My fellow Christians were very happy and they welcomed me. That was a good thing for me, and it changed my life."

From Seeker to Evangelist

Through seven years of friendship and prayer with Cheryl, Maiga transformed from a young man lacking confidence into an assured believer with a vision to be an international evangelist. When an opportunity arose to travel to the U.S. for agricultural training, Cheryl prayed with him through the application and visa process.

Maiga succeeded in his goal. He now plans to return to Tanzania to train others in agriculture and lead Bible studies, using the skills he learned to help his countrymen flourish.

"I believe that if God used Cheryl to change me, God can also use me to change others," Maiga shared.
