If you believe in Jesus in Myanmar, you are facing potential death. Knowing that the God he wanted to freely worship was worth the risk, Muang made the agonizing decision to leave everything behind and escape.
"In my country, we’re not free to worship Jesus. Christians were very discriminated against," Muang shared. "We had to hire smugglers. They were not kind to us. They had guns. They had knives. Some people didn’t survive."
The lonely journey out of his homeland quickly turned into a nightmare. Before he could reach safety, Muang was captured. He was thrown into a brutal reality, stripped of his freedom and his dignity.
"I was arrested and put in jail,” Muang recalled. “Jail in Malaysia was hard. There’s no bed, no pillow, nothing. No blanket. We had to sleep on the ground."
Lying on that cold, unforgiving floor, the crushing weight of isolation set in. He was entirely alone in a dangerous, violent world.
"I prayed to God to deliver me from this. I lost my hope," he added.
Eventually, Muang was moved from the prison to a refugee camp. He had survived the smugglers and the jail, but the aching emptiness of his exile remained. Wrestling with his own mortality and a terrifyingly uncertain future, he noticed the camp had a computer.
"I was on the computer searching for ‘Where will you go if you die?’, and Global Media Outreach popped up," Muang explained.
He submitted an email—a desperate cry into the digital void—not knowing if anyone on the other side of the screen would actually care. But the next day, the silence broke. He received a response from an Online Missionary named Jeni.
"Receiving that message from Global Media Outreach was awesome," Muang said. "I felt like somebody was talking back to me. That was Ms. Jeni."
Half a world away, Jeni saw Muang's message. For her, ministering to a young man fleeing persecution wasn't just volunteer work; it was the profound fulfillment of a lifelong calling.
"Ever since I was a young person, I was captivated by the Great Commission," Jeni explained. "People all over the world are just crying out to meet Jesus. They want to know where He is and where God is. These people are facing war. They’re facing incredible persecution."
Though they faced communication barriers due to Muang's broken English, Jeni patiently sought divine guidance to pull him out of his spiritual darkness.
"I always just asked the Lord for Scriptures to share with him, and he began to grow in his faith," Jeni noted. "So it was a great treasure to me to minister to this boy that’s somewhere else in the world."
As Muang navigated the terrifying realities of life as a refugee, Jeni remained a constant, steady presence. She consistently prayed for him and encouraged him when he had absolutely no one else.
"Ms. Jeni was the only person I could count on at this time. She was a spiritual mentor," Muang shared. "I felt comfort, I felt peace because somebody was talking back. Ms. Jeni helped me learn who God is."
The digital connection between a desperate refugee in Malaysia and a willing volunteer in America transformed them both. In places where physical missionaries cannot go, and believers face incredible persecution, our OMs and resources provide a secure, life-saving bridge to the Gospel.
"The connection between Muang and me through the Holy Spirit and Global Media Outreach changed us both," Jeni shared. "All my life, I’ve really wanted to fulfill the Great Commission. I’ve wanted to see the Gospel spread all over the world. And it’s happening all over the world. The Gospel is going out, and I’m part of it."
For Muang, that digital lifeline made all the difference.
"Global Media Outreach can bring hope to other people because they bring hope to me," Muang said.
